The Shape of Things to Come (2024 Edition!)

Welcome to 2024, friends! I hope everyone has had a splendid New Year so far! With resolutions firmly in place (for now), let’s take a quick look at what I’ve been up to recently, as well as a glimpse ahead at what cool things may or may not be coming over the next 354 days!

2023 in Review

I’d originally planned to do a retrospective at the end of 2023 as I did the previous year, but I’ve been so busy I just haven’t had time! And just as well, since the biggest news was the impossible-to-miss release of the final book in the Into Vermilion trilogy, A Beast of Nine Horns! Super excited to get that out there, because it means I can pivot my attention to more fun projects. That aside, I had pretty good writing momentum over the rest of the year, which means I was able to complete the second draft of the next exciting thing, which I’ll tease more about a couple paragraphs down! All in all, it wasn’t the storm of activity that 2022 was, but I’m very happy with the year all told. Now, let’s take a look at what the new year will bring.

Book Updates

We’re starting off 2024 with a new batch of updates for both The Warren Brood and Into Vermilion! Unexcitingly, there isn’t too much interesting in the update, content-wise. It primarily contains a small text change to the front-matter and a tiny (literally undisplayed) CSS update that will make ebook generation a much smoother process going forward. And thus to commemorate the new year, The Warren Brood has leveled up to the fresh new version tag “1.2024 Latrodectus“, and Into Vermilion has advanced to “1.2024 Charybdis“. As of this writing, the latest versions should be available wherever ebooks are sold!

The Shape of Things to Come

Version updates that don’t actually change anything are all well and good, you may say, but what new and exciting stuff is coming in 2024? Well, as I’ve teased a bit up to now, my latest draft is advancing at a great clip, and I’m fairly confident that I’ll be able to release it this year. It’s already in pretty damn good shape considering how quickly it’s come together. And so, I’m pleased to announce here at the turn of 2024, that this shall be the Year of the Spider! That’s right, friends! The Warren Brood, long thought to be complete, is getting another book!

Though I’ve often said that the series was finished, anyone who has read the trilogy knows there’s a non-insignificant bit of unconcluded business that presents itself in the denouement. With the release of this fourth book, those lingering story threads will at last be tied off. And if that doesn’t get you pumped up, just check out this cover:

Okay, well, don’t check it out just yet. Let’s build a little excitement first, yeah? More updates will of course be coming later on this year, but for now, you’ll need to make do with this tiny little teaser.

Another Warren Brood book is exciting enough, but I’m even more stoked about what I’m planning after that. Following the completion of The Warren Brood: Book IV, I will be starting on a new series, one which is quite different than anything I’ve written before, but may not lie so far from these universes and characters I have created. I can’t give too much away on this just yet, but I’m very excited to hopefully drop some more information on this as the year goes on and the Warren Brood inches closer to completion (for real, this time).
